NK Logger Enters S.Korean Consulate in Russia

A North Korean defector in Russia has managed to enter a South Korean consulate in Vladivostok to defect to South Korea.

A Foreign Ministry official in Seoul said Friday that the North Korean defector, an ex-logger in his early 40s, entered the consulate a few weeks ago and hoped the consulate will send him to the South. The official refused to elaborate on the details, citing security for the defector.

Quoting an activist group for human rights in North Korea, Voice of America also reported that a North Korean logger, only identified by his family name "Choi," managed to enter the South Korean consulate in Vladivostok.

The broadcaster said that similar incidents happened in March and May and that one of the defectors entered the U.S. as a refugee.
