UNCMAC Probe Team to Investigate Guard Post

The United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission will dispatch a special probe team to a military guard post near the border in Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province early next week.

A military official said Saturday the move comes after North Korea fired two shots toward the South Korean guard post earlier on Friday.

The official said that the special investigation team will be led by Colonel Kurt Taylor and will include some ten members. The team, which is likely to be sent to the guard post around Tuesday, will seek to determine whether the North had violated terms of the armistice that ended the Korean War by firing the shots.
