KOSPI, Won Surge

South Korean shares have recovered to the 1910 mark, rising for the first time in four sessions.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) on Monday surged 31 points to close at 1,914.

The market started weak due to concerns about uncertainties ahead of a U.S. Federal Open Market Committee meeting, but it was later bolstered by reports of China's better-than-expected manufacturing growth and solid performance in the automobile sector.

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ, meanwhile, edged up to close at 527.

On the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won gained eight-point-seven won on the U.S. dollar to close at 1,116.6 won to the greenback.
