New data shows that South Korean films’ audience share was relatively high in October but that the total number of moviegoers slid sharply from 2009.

The statistics released by the Korean Film Council show that Korean films drew four-point-seven million moviegoers in October this year, exceeding the number of people who saw foreign films.

However, the total number of moviegoers last month declined by 33 percent from the previous month, with one-point-five million fewer people heading to theatres compared to October of last year.

The council attributed the decline to the absence of Hollywood blockbusters showing in Korea.
