North Korea has informed South Korea and the U.S. again of its intent to cooperate with the investigation into the sinking of the South Korean “Cheonan” naval vessel.
A North Korean diplomat in Beijing told reporters that North Korea had no hand in the sinking of the Cheonan and said it intended to disclose its information in a scientific manner after the on-site investigation.
North Korea said in its own investigation report published on November second in the Korean Central News Agency that it makes torpedoes using steel alloys, not the aluminum alloy that was used in the torpedo South Korea says was used to sink the South Korean naval corvette. The North also said that it is willing to provide the sample to South Korea.
Meanwhile, North Korea’s ambassador to Switzerland and the United Nations in Geneva So Se-pyong told Reuters that the U.S. and South Korea have locked the six-party denuclearization talks into a stalemate with their lack of commitment. He also said that the U.S. is using the incident to avoid a resumption of the talks.
