A Foreign Ministry official said Monday a proposed visit by a U.S. special envoy to North Korea could be realized even before the Trilateral Coordination and Oversight Group (TCOG), set to open in Seoul in early September. The official said U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs James Kelly could go to Pyongyang early next month before the trilateral meeting between Seoul, Washington and Tokyo for resumption of the suspended talks. The U.S. administration is expected to set the specific date for Kelly's Pyongyang visit after discussing the results of the recent inter-Korean ministerial talks and subsequent development. He said the U.S. government considers the outcome of the seventh inter-Korean ministerial talks a meaningful development. Most recent press reports said Kelly could visit the North in mid-September.
