Rose of Sharon Trees Named Natural Treasure

South Korea’s national flower, the Rose of Sharon, will be named a natural treasure.

The Cultural Heritage Administration says preliminary designations were given to two Rose of Sharon trees, one in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, and another in Incheon City.

The tree in Gangneung is believed to be 110 years old, and the one in Incheon about 100 years old.

Rose of Sharon trees typically live for 40 to 50 years.
