The North Korean People’s Army chief of the general staff reportedly says Pyongyang will continue to pour thunderbolts of retaliation on South Korea for alleged violations of the North’s sovereignty.
According to the head of an organization of North Korean escapees in South Korea, Ri Yong-ho made the threat in a 40-minute public radio address on November 25th, two days after the North fired artillery shells on South Korea’s Yeonpyeong Island.
North Korea launched the attack after claiming that the South Korean military had violated the North’s territory in the Yellow Sea.
Ri reportedly said in the speech that despite North Korea having shown sincerity by participating in the six-way nuclear talks, the international community has given no reward.
He reportedly said that dialogue with the U.S. is no longer necessary and that North Korea will pursue a strategy of equivalent retaliation for violations of its sovereignty.
North Korea’s chief of the general staff is equivalent to South Korea's chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
