Sources in Beijing said Friday formal charges will be filed with a Chinese court against Choi John Daniel and Choi Bong-il, missionaries thought to have abetted illegal entry and exit of North Korean defectors in China. The arrested Korean-American and South Korean missionaries are suspected of smuggling an unknown number of North Koreans into China and helping them escape to a third country. The two church ministers are thought to have been accomplices to Cheon Gi-won, another South Korean missionary. Cheon was released and deported to his country earlier in August after being arrested in December last year near the China-Mongolia border for attempting to smuggle 12 North Koreans from China via Mongolia to South Korea.
