U.N. estimates N.K. population at 23,078 million

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations, the population of North Korea is estimated at 23.078 million as of April 2002. FAO and WFP said in a special report of crop and food supply assessment to North Korea that the country's new population estimate is 23.078 million as of April 2002. The report also said life expectancy in the North has fallen from 66.8 years in 1993 to 60.4 years in 2001, based on the government reports.
