The nation has completed a nationwide broadband convergence network (BcN) seven years after the launch of the project.

The BcN network enables users to transmit data at an average speed of 100 megabits per second.

In a congratulatory speech on Monday, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) Choi See-joong said that with the completion of the network, the nation can now boast a world-class IT infrastructure and leap to the ranks of leading countries in the global IT market.

Currently, 13 million homes or about 78 percent of the nation's households are using the broadband network.

The government launched a task force in 2003 to oversee the BcN project.
