The World Food Programme (WFP) said in a recent emergency report that North Korea needs 108,615 tons of additional food contributions for the fourth quarter of this year. The WFP said at least 9,000 tons of wheat flour for local food production are also urgently needed. The agency said maize crops seem to be doing better than rice as reported by county officials in South Pyongan and North and South Hwanghae provinces and Nampo. It said paddy fields have been affected by the water weevil infestation, lack of sufficient fertilizer and unfavorable weather conditions.
