North Korea has repeated threats against South Korea for its plans to conduct live-fire drills from Yeonpyeong Island.
In a statement issued Saturday, a Web site operated by the North's Committee for Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, or "Uriminjok-kkiri,” said there is no guarantee that the South’s military exercises won't lead to an actual war.
The statement claimed that the South’s plan to carry out the drills at Yeonpyeong Island is a military provocation aimed at pursuing war on the Korean Peninsula.
The statement added that in the event war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula, a nuclear disaster will hit the region that would bring about damages incomparable to the Korean War.
Earlier on Friday, in a notification sent under the name of its chief delegate to inter-Korean general-level talks, the North said the South must immediately take steps to suspend its live-fire drills. The North then said it would deal unpredictable second and third self-defensive military blows if the South pushes forward on the drills.
