‘Gaeseong Industrial Complex Operating as Usual’

The Unification Ministry in Seoul says no unusual moves have been detected at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, two employees of South Korean companies conducting business at the joint inter-Korean venture had returned from the North Korean border city to the South.

Three-hundred-nine South Koreans are currently in North Korea including 297 at the Gaeseong complex and 14 at the Mount Geumgang resort.

A ministry official said that factories are operating as usual, with North Korean employees reporting for work at the industrial park.

The official added that the government will decide whether or not to extend a ban on South Korean’s travel to North Korea by taking into account developments in the situation following the South’s shooting drills in the Yellow Sea on Monday.

The government banned visits to North Korea's Gaeseong Industrial Complex by South Korean corporate officials on Monday amid heightened inter-Korean tensions over Seoul's resumption of live-fire drills.
