North Korean state-media have released images of Kim Jong-il visiting the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su 105 Guards Tank Division late last year.

The division, which took the lead in invading Seoul during the Korean War, is regarded as the reclusive leader’s favorite military unit.

The tank division was the first military unit Kim visited last year in January. At the time of his visit, the division was reportedly conducting training on a scenario in which the North invades the South. A new tank reportedly took part in the drill.

Meanwhile, Kim’s heir apparent, Kim Jong-un, was not included in the list of officials that accompanied the North Korean leader on the recent visit. The junior Kim has accompanied his father on visits to military units four times since October.
