Oxfam named winner of sixth Seoul Peace Prize

Oxfam, an international relief organization, was named the winner of this year's Seoul Peace Prize on Wednesday. Oxfam will receive $200,000 dollars in prize money. The Seoul Peace Prize Cultural Foundation announced it decided to award this year's prize to the world's biggest relief organization. Lee Chul-seung, chairman of the foundation we made the final decision after a 15-member board reviewed former and incumbent heads of states, religious leaders and scholars and other recommended candidates. Oxfam is the sixth winner of the biennial prize established to honor the spirit of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The prize-awarding ceremony will be held on Sept. 26 in Seoul. Oxfam, which was first formed in 1942 during the World War II to help Greek victims of Nazi rule, is a confederation of 12 non-governmental organizations working together in more than 80 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty, suffering and injustice.
