North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency says that the North’s Committee for Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland has proposed that the two Koreas hold unconditional government-level talks as soon as possible. The state-run news agency said that the date and venue could be finalized through discussions between the two Koreas.
The North Korean committee said in a statement read by its spokesperson that North Korea is willing to resume inter-Korean dialogue, including meetings between the two sides’ Red Cross organizations, talks on the resumption of South Korean tours to the North Korean resort Mt. Geumgang, and on the operation of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex. He also proposed that the inter-Korean meeting be held in Gaeseong in late January or early February.
The committee said that as a gesture to improve inter-Korean relations, North Korea will reopen the Red Cross channel in the truce village of Panmunjeom while normalizing the operation of the inter-Korean economic cooperation office at the Gaeseong industrial park.
