North Korea said Friday that it wants to resolve all military-related issues during a high-level military meeting it proposed be held with South Korea.
The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the topics South Korea wants to discuss at the meeting are military in nature. It added that the North is firm in wanting to resolve all military issues, including those put forth by the South, during the high-level talks.
KCNA said that amid global peace and stability, the Korean Peninsula is the only region with continued military tension and that inter-Korean relations are at their worst since the division of the Koreas.
It said that accordingly, Koreans as one ethnic group should feel responsibility for such a situation whether they are politicians or members of the military.
Pyongyang asked in a telephone message it made Thursday that a decision on the schedule and location for the talks convenient to both sides be made in early February. It also asked that working-level discussions on the meeting be held before the end of this month.
