IAEA to adopt resolution demanding N.K. accept nuclear inspections

Written: 2002-09-10 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is set to adopt a resolution at its 46th regular session to be held in Vienna, September 16th to 20th, calling for North Korea to adhere to an agreement struck between the two parties. A Foreign Ministry official said the IAEA adopts such a resolution annually. The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons safeguards agreement was made in 1992, though from 2000 onwards, the IAEA has been unable to fully implement the agreement. The agency says it has not been able to verify the accuracy and completeness of the North's initial declaration of nuclear material in its possession, which is subject to the safeguards.
