The government has ordered elementary, middle and high schools in areas where foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) has broken out to consider delaying the start of the spring semester in order to prevent the spread of the disease.

The Education Ministry says it sent the urgent notice to education bureaus nationwide on Sunday.

The principal of each school will have the final say on whether to delay the first day of school after consulting with local FMD situation rooms.
