Inter-Korean Military Talks Open in Panmunjeom

South and North Korean military officials have begun working-level talks at the truce village of Panmunjeom to coordinate future high-level talks between the two nations.

The two sides launched talks at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and are each represented by three officials. Colonel Moon Sang-gyun is leading the South’s delegation and Senior Colonel Ri Son-kwon is heading the North’s delegation.

The Defense Ministry said the talks are focused on coordinating views on the agenda, venue and schedule for high-level military talks.

Ahead of Tuesday’s meeting, the South’s delegation decided not to raise the issue of the North’s provocations at the working-level talks but will instead seek to get the North’s apology for recent provocations and its pledge to prevent the recurrence of such incidents during the high-level military talks.
