'NK Leader Defended by Tanks'

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il’s guards reportedly have a tank unit stationed in the middle of Pyongyang.

Radio Free Asia (RFA) quoted a North Korean defector as saying that he lived in Pyongyang until recently and that there is one such unit run by the guards.

The defector said the unit is made up of 50 tanks and is stationed in the Daedong River area in Pyongyang. The defector says the unit conducts drills once a year.

According to RFA, the tank unit is located near Kim Jong-il’s residence to prepare for riots and other subversive incidents.
