Gov't to Make College Entrance Exam Easier

The government plans to make the College Scholastic Ability Test easier and enhance the link between the exam with EBS study aid books.

The Education, Science and Technology Ministry, the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation and the public educational broadcaster EBS said Wednesday that they will ensure that about one percent of test takers get full marks in each section from this year by excluding extremely difficult questions.

The ministry said that the plan is aimed at easing the demand for private tutoring by using questions based on EBS guide books.

The ministry also decided to reduce the number of EBS guide books for Korean, math and foreign languages to 24 from the current 45, and to provide free Adobe PDF files for those who can’t afford to buy the books.

The ministry plans to improve EBS reference books so they will be used as study aids for in-depth learning by students.
