NK Continues to Release Threats amid S.Korea-US Drills

North Korea has continued to release threatening statements against South Korea and the U.S. amid the two allies’ annual joint military drills.

In a statement Tuesday, the North’s Foreign Ministry called the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle drills “nuclear war games” and claimed the drills are aimed at invading the North.

The statement then said that it is becoming more of an inevitability that the North’s military will have to opt for a physical response based on self-defense.

In an editorial released by the North’s Korean Central News Agency, the North’s Rodong Sinmun said opportunities for dialogue and peace are disappearing on the Korean Peninsula and that instead dangers of war are looming. The editorial then threatened that a “nuclear disaster” would be unleashed if a war breaks out on the peninsula.

The editorial also hinted at the need to resume the stalled six-way nuclear talks, saying that now is the time for concerned parties to identify the severity of the situation on the peninsula and to deal with the situation rationally.
