The Buddhist community said Thursday it will continue a "Temple Stay Program," initially arranged to promote Korea's traditional culture to foreign tourists for the 2002 World Cup, until the end of the Sept. 29-Oct. 14 Busan Asian Games. A total of 14 temples, including Tongdo, Beomeo, Samgwang temples in Busan, will participate in the program. Nine temples will provide overnight stay packages, while the remaining five will provide daytime stays or special weekend packages. Under the program, visitors will be able to savor the distinctive characteristics and teachings of Korean Buddhism, while sharing food and lodgings with resident monks. In addition, participating temples have developed their own distinctive events in which foreign travellers will be able to experience traditional temple life such as Buddhist meditation, lotus lantern making classes and hill walking.
