South Korea is seeing a continual increase in copyrights that are exported for South Korean books.

According to data from the Korean Publishers Association, the copyrights for only 20 books were exported in 2001. The number then surged to one-thousand-54 in 2008 and 14-hundred-77 last year.

Copyrights for 29-hundred South Korean books have been exported over the past two years. The copyrights for 41 percent of those books were granted to China, which is the largest purchaser of copyrights for South Korean books.

The association attributes the surge to the spread of Korean pop culture in other Asian nations.
