Information Minister to Visit Morocco, Mauritania Sept. 21-28

Information and Communication Minister Lee Sang-chul will visit Morocco and Mauritania Sept. 21-28 to attend the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) meeting and gain support for Seoul's bid to attract the 2010 World Expo.

The ministry said FridayParticipants of the ITU meeting, to be held in Morocco, will choose ITU director countries, secretary general and other ITU senior officials.

South Korea is bidding to become an ITU director country for the four consecutive years.

On the sidelines of the Morocco meeting, Lee will hold talks with his counterparts from China and Japan to discuss ways to digitalize the world cultural heritage and standardize of the Asian information technology.

Lee then will visit Mauritania as President Kim Dae-jung's special envoy to meet the Mauritanian president and his Mauritanian counterpart. The former KT president will ask them to support Seoul's bid for the 2010 world exhibition.
