'Cyber Attacks Believed to be Done by N.Korea'

Korea Communications Commission (KCC) Chairman Choi Si-joong says last week's massive cyber attack, known as the distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, is believed to be from North Korea.

Before the parliament’s Committee on Culture, Sports, Tourism, Broadcasting and Communications on Tuesday, Choi said that it is not known which site the attack originated from, but that it is believed to have been instigated by the North.

The KCC chief cited that the time when the attack occurred coincides with the period of the ongoing Key Resolve military drill between South Korea and the United States.

The commission told the committee that it will increase the number of Web sites subject to daily checkups on malicious codes to one-point-eight million from the current one million. The commission will also increase the number of times private and government organizations hold joint exercises on cyber attacks to four times a year.
