N.Korea Shows Videos of Defectors’ Families

North Korea has put on its propaganda Web site a video clip showing the families of defectors and urging their immediate repatriation.

A Web site operated by the North's Committee for Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, or "Uriminjok-kkiri,” showed the video clip. The families of the four North Koreans who expressed wishes to defect claim that the four are being detained in the South against their will.

The family members, including one said to be the mother of a 22-year-old defector, said the defection was due to South Korea’s coercion.

They did not appear emotional and were without tears. What they said appeared to have been prepared beforehand.

A fishing vessel carrying 31 North Koreans drifted past the Yellow Sea border amid foggy weather in early February. Four of those aboard the ship have said that they wanted to defect from the North.
