Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter will likely visit North Korea in late April.
He's expected to be accompanied by members of "The Elders", an independent group of eminent global leaders.
A diplomatic source says other prominent figures will join him on the visit including former Irish President Mary Robinson and former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan .
The source in Washington also added that Carter is planning to visit North Korea with world luminaries in hopes to contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula. But the source said details of the visit's objective and itinerary are not yet determined.
Carter is reportedly discussing the timetable with the office of North Korea's Representative to the United Nations in New York.
The former U.S. president visited Pyongyang in July last year to help the release of an American national Aijalon Gomes. However, he did not have a chance to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-il at the time as Kim was visiting China.
