UM Approves of Aid to N.Korea Sent by Civic Groups Again

The Unification Ministry said it had approved of a request made by the civic group Korean Sharing Movement to deliver aid to North Korea.

The approved supplies package comprises of bread, powdered soy milk and sweets, amounting to some 30-million won. The ministry said they will be sent to kindergartens and orphanages in North Hamgyeong Province.

Unification Ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung told reporters that humanitarian aid to North Korea for the vulnerable will be reviewed separately on a case-by-case basis.

This marks the second time that the ministry approved of a civic group sending humanitarian aid to North Korea since the North’s artillery attack on Yeonpyeong Island.
