S. Korea, China Score Lopsided Opening Victories

World Cup player Choi Tae-uk headed in a goal in the sixth minute Friday night giving South Korea a four-to-zero victory over the Maldives. Choi, who was a reserve on South Korea's World Cup team, headed in a cross from Choi Sung-kuk for his team's quick lead. Lee Dong-gook scored two second-half goals for the Koreans. China also opened with a four-to-zero victory, over Turkmenistan. The 24-team soccer tournament for the Asian Games began its preliminary round Friday two days before the games' formal opening ceremony. In Group A with South Korea, Oman beat Malaysia one to zero. In Group C with China, India defeated Bangladesh three to zero. Thailand beat Yemen three to zero and Vietnam held the United Arab Emirates to a scoreless draw in Group B matches.
