Radio Free Asia reports that North Korea appears to be building large-scale facilities for military use near the inter-Korean maritime border, the Northern Limit Line (NLL), in South Pyongan Province in North Korea.
The RFA disclosed satellite photos from Google Earth, which it said were taken in July last year. The medium said it confirmed that there is a new structure being built in Kangryong County in North Korea’s South Hwanghae Province, which is less than 30-kilometers away from South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island.
The broadcaster said the new facilities, which appear to be for military purposes, are on land some 20-thousand square meters wide. Three of the buildings appear to have been completed. To the west of the suspected military buildings, a pier is being built.
The radio broadcaster also quoted a U.S. military expert who analyzed the satellite photos as saying that the new facilities could be infrastructure for a nearby naval base.
