KCC Says Free Texting Service is Unlikely

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) says that the making of mobile phone texting services free is unlikely.

KCC Chairman Choi See-joong told the parliament on Wednesday that the commission is considering a free texting service for mobile phone users.

A senior KCC official, however, explained on Thursday that the decision basically is up to the service providers, which is why a move is effectively difficult to be realized.

The official said that the commission is, however, exploring various ways to cut telecommunications fees, adding that a related task force will release the results of its review early next month.
