Satellite Cheollian Ready to Launch Commercial Operations

The Cheollian, the nation’s first geostationary ocean weather-communications satellite, is ready to launch various services eight months after it was launched into orbit.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) on Monday said that the satellite has successfully passed all pre-operational tests and has completed its preparations after being launched in June last year.

The KCC, the Korea Meteorological Administration and the National Emergency Management Agency plan to establish by next year an emergency communication network with the satellite on a trial basis.

Meanwhile, KT Skylife will use the Cheollian to test a 3D satellite broadcasting service.

South Korea has become the tenth country in the world that has developed its own communications satellite.
