An average two-point-three percent rise in private university tuition has bumped up the number of private schools charging more than eight-million won annually from 34 to 50.
The Education Ministry and the Korean Council for University Education made the announcement Friday on an education information portal.
Private universities' medical schools were the most expensive at over ten million won on average. Med schools at Yonsei and Korea University exceeded 12 million won.
Sports and arts departments were the next highest with a price tag of eight-point-seven million won, followed by engineering at just under eight-point-seven million. Natural sciences schools hit an average of eight million won and social sciences and humanities cost about six-point-seven million won.
The average tuition of private universities grew two-point-three percent to nearly seven-point-seven million won this year, or close to 72-hundred dollars. Public university tuition grew six tenths of a percent to four-point-four million.
