N.Korea Announces Follow-up to Contract Cancellation on Mt. Geumgang Tours

North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Friday that the North Korean Supreme People's Assembly has announced plans to independently establish a special tourism zone for Mount Geumgang and exercise control over the area.

North Korea said it plans to terminate the validity of an October 2002 law that allowed a tourist industry in Mount Geumgang.

Analysts say these are follow-up measures to the North's termination of South Korean tour company Hyundai Asan’s exclusive rights to the tourist region on April 8th without prior notice.
