Korea Communications Commission (KCC) Chairman Choi See-joong says that South Korea’s terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) technology is expected to be a significant tool in disaster broadcasting as the number of natural disasters around the world continues to rise.
Choi made the remarks on Monday during a signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Korea Radio Promotion Association and Indonesia’s Unissula University.
Under the agreement, the association will help the university launch a cyber class using terrestrial DMB devices. The association also donated three thousand DMB devices to the university on Monday.
In a meeting with Indonesia’s Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring earlier in the day, the KCC chief offered Seoul’s active cooperation in running a high-speed wireless Internet network (WiBro) service. Choi noted that Indonesia, comprising of 18-thousand islands, has a high demand for wireless services.
In response, Sembiring hoped that a corporate cooperation between the two nations will contribute to the establishment of a communications infrastructure in Indonesia.
