Archdiocese: Organ Donation Pledges Top 100,000

Over 100-thousand people have applied to posthumously donate their organs in a campaign hosted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul.

The organ donation drive is organized by the archdiocese's One-Body One-Spirit campaign headquarters.

The archdiocese says the number of applicants topped 100-thousand on April 21st. It said that the late Stephen Cardinal Kim Sou-hwan's donation of his cornea helped raise awareness on donating organs.

Between the campaign’s inception in 1989 and 2008, 33-thousand people signed up to be organ donors. In 2009 alone, 31-thousand joined the cause following Cardinal Kim's death.
