Samsung Starts Mass Production of High-Performance NAND Flash

Samsung Electronics has launched its mass production of a high-performance NAND flash memory chip.

The new NAND flash chip is expected to be widely used in digital cameras, computers and portable storage devices as there is no data loss when it is cut off from power.

The chips can transmit data at a bandwidth of up to 400 megabits per second (Mbps), which is ten times faster than the most widely used NAND flash memory chips that are currently on the market.

It also allows one to transfer a one-point-four gigabyte movie in just three-and-a-half seconds from a USB device to a personal computer, whereas a typical NAND flash chip would take about 35 seconds to do so.

Samsung said that the mass production of the high-performance chips will enable the firm to maintain its lead in the market this year.
