Gaeseong Ind. Park Posts Record-high Output in March 2011

Monthly output in March at the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex in the North has surpassed a record-high 34 million dollars.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry attributed the greater output to a steady inflow of North Korean workers into the complex. The number of North Korean workers increased from 43 thousand in May 2010 to 46 thousand in late March. The surge came despite South Korea's suspension of inter-Korean exchanges following its deadly sinking of the South Korean naval corvette Cheonan in spring 2010.

The Gaeseong complex also posted some one-point-four billion dollars in total output in 2010, an increase of more than 50 percent from the 940 million dollars tallied in 2009.

In addition, there has been one addition to the 122 companies operating inside the Gaeseong Industrial Park, bringing the total to 123.
