S.Korea Announces Measures to Boost Public Education

The Education Ministry announced measures on Thursday intended to boost public education while curbing the demand for private education outside of school.

As part of the measures, the ministry will bolster after-school programs at schools. It will create a Web site providing comprehensive information on the operation of the after-school programs while establishing a pool of instructors qualified to teach the programs.

The ministry has a plan to use graduated education majors, retired teachers and qualified industry experts as instructors for the after-school programs.

It will also foster 50 after-school program operators by 2013. Colleges, local governments, education offices and related businesses will be invited to participate in developing and operating the programs for schools.
