North Korean leader Kim Jong-il arrived in Beijing by his special train on Wednesday marking the sixth day of his visit to China.
Kim arrived at Beijing Station at 10 a.m. Wednesday, 17 hours after he left the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing. Following a welcome ceremony, the North Korean leader quickly headed for the Diaoyutai State Guest House by car.
The area around Beijing Station and the main road leading to the state guest house were heavily guarded by police, and traffic was completely blocked on the road by Kim’s convoy.
The North Korean leader is expected to hold a summit with Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday afternoon. The two leaders will have comprehensive discussions on pending issues such as economic cooperation, North Korea’s power succession and the six-party nuclear talks.
Kim is predicted to wrap up his schedule in Beijing and leave the Chinese capital city on Wednesday, since Myanmar President Thein Sein is scheduled to pay a state visit to China on Thursday.
