South Koreans employed at the Mount Geumgang Resort in North Korea got to work Wednesday morning without any issues.
There was concern the South Koreans would not be able to enter the resort after North Korea recently threatened to shut down the inter-Korean liaison office of the Mount Geumgang district.
The South’s Unification Ministry said that North Korea had given consent as usual to allow the 14 South Koreans access to the resort.
A ministry official said that South Korean nationals will likely be able to enter and exit the resort as long as North Korea does not take additional measures. The official added that Pyongyang only mentioned cutting off communication and did not say it would ban South Korean entries.
The North’s defense commission said on Monday that it will no longer associate with the South Korean government. It said it will cut off the military communication line of the East Sea district and shut down the Geumgang district liaison office.
