KCC to Look into Risks of Electromagnetic Fields

The Korea Communications Commission says that it will investigate the risks cell phones can potentially cause on long-term cell phone users, pregnant women and adolescents.

The decision follows the World Health Organization’s recent classification of cell phone-associated radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as a potential carcinogen.

The commission is also considering raising the allowable specific absorption rate (SAR) of electronic devices.

It will also investigate electromagnetic fields’ effects on the whole body as well as the brain. The investigation will target electronic devices that are often kept near human bodies, such as cell phones and tablet PCs.
