The nation’s top mobile carrier SK Telecom will cut its basic monthly service rate by one-thousand won in line with the government’s efforts to stabilize prices.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) on Thursday released a set of measures to reduce telecom charges.

Under the measures, SK Telecom will cut its basic monthly service rate to eleven-thousand won from the current 12-thousand won starting in September. The firm will also offer 50 free text messages every month for its subscribers.

From July, smartphone users currently subscribing to monthly fixed-rate data plans may use a new rate system that allows the subscribers to pick the amount of voice communication, texting and data that they use.

The service rate for prepaid mobile phones will also be cut to four-and-a-half won per second from the current four-point-eight next month.
