US Envoy Discussed Family Reunions with N.Korea

Radio Free Asia reports that U.S. Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights Issues Robert King discussed family reunions of North Korean residents and Korean Americans among other issues on his recent visit to the North.

RFA reported that a senior official at the U.S. State Department said King urged North Korean officials, including North Korea’s chief nuclear envoy Kim Kye-kwan, to improve human rights in the North, which included reuniting separated families.

The official said that the U.S. government is making numerous efforts to allow Korean residents of the U.S. to meet their families in North Korea, which is an important agenda for King.

King visited North Korea on May 24th to inspect the food situation in North Korea and to negotiate the release of Korean-American missionary, Jun Young-su, whom had been detained there.
