UM Expresses Regret over N.Korea’s Claims

The Unification Ministry has expressed regret over North Korea’s threats and claims about a secret inter-Korean contact last month.

Ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung told a regular news briefing on Friday that North Korea has made unilateral claims that distort the truth about the secret meeting. Chun said the government doesn’t need to respond to each and every one of such claims.

He urged the North to take responsible actions and open dialogue with the South.

The spokesman said that the South Korean government has made clear that the secret meeting was to get North Korea to admit to and apologize for the torpedoing of the South’s Cheonan naval vessel and the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island.

He denied North Korea’s claim that the South had offered money to the North in return for an inter-Korean summit, calling it “completely untrue.”
