Nation to See Full Implementation of 5-Day School Week Next Year

Written: 2011-06-14 17:17:39Updated: 2011-06-15 17:50:39

All primary and secondary schools nationwide will effectively adopt a five-day workweek starting next year.

Domestic schools currently rest only two Saturdays per month.

The government on Tuesday announced that it will introduce a complete five-day workweek for all elementary, middle and high schools from 2012. However, it will allow schools to make their own decision on whether they adopt the system with the approval of city or provincial superintendents.

About ten percent of the nation’s primary and secondary schools will implement the system on a trial basis from the autumn semester.

It is expected that all schools will adopt the system if they are allowed to make their own decisions on its implementation.
