5 Year-Olds at Kindergartens to Recieve State Subsidy

Five-year olds who go to kindergartens or day care facilities will receive a state subsidy beginning next year.

The issuing of the subsidies is a follow-up measure to the government’s announcement last month to introduce a unified curriculum for five-year-olds and to provide aid to kindergartens and nursery schools.

The education and health ministries said on Tuesday that an advance notice of a revision has been issued to that effect.

The state subsidy will increase in phases from 200-thousand won per month next year to 300-thousand won in 2016.

Public kindergartens, however, will receive a monthly subsidy of 59-thousand won per student without a raise as the government currently covers labor and management costs for them.
